About the Directory Fields
The Haiti Education NGO Directory is designed to help people find and connect with organizations involved in education and related services in Haiti.
The directory brings together information from organizations’ websites, public records, and other publicly available sources. The fields below explain what the information in the directory means and how it is categorized.
Location
Haiti Department
The Haitian department in which the organization, school, program, or other activity is located.
Haiti Locality
The town, commune, city, or other locality associated with the organization’s work.
Port-au-Prince Neighborhood
A more specific neighborhood or area within metropolitan Port-au-Prince when that information is available.
Port-au-Prince Metro
Identifies the municipality or commune within the greater Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, such as Delmas, Tabarre, Cité Soleil, Carrefour, or Pétion-Ville.
National
Used when an organization works throughout Haiti or serves a national audience rather than being associated with one primary locality.
Multiple Locations
Used when an organization operates in more than one identifiable location in Haiti.
Map Coordinates
The latitude and longitude used to place the organization on the directory map. When an exact facility location is not available, the marker may represent a town, neighborhood, or other appropriate geographic area rather than the organization’s precise street location.
Educational Focus
Teacher Training
The organization provides training, professional development, mentoring, curriculum support, or other educational assistance for teachers or school staff.
Vocational Education / Training
The organization provides skills training intended to prepare people for employment, trades, entrepreneurship, or income-generating work.
Special Education
The organization provides education or educational support specifically designed for children or adults with disabilities or special learning needs.
Postsecondary Education / Assistance
The organization provides college, university, professional, scholarship, or other educational assistance beyond secondary school.
Kreyòl
Uses Kreyòl Curriculum
The organization uses Haitian Kreyòl as a meaningful part of its educational curriculum or instructional program.
Creates or Publishes Kreyòl Curriculum
The organization develops, produces, publishes, or distributes educational materials or curriculum in Haitian Kreyòl.
Libraries
School Library
The organization supports or operates a library primarily serving students at a school.
Community Library
The organization supports or operates a library intended for use by the broader community.
Organizational Focus
Founded or Managed by Haitian National or Diaspora

Family-Style Orphanage / Residential Care
The organization provides residential care intended to function in a family-style environment.
Family Reconciliation / Reintegration
The organization works to reunite children with biological or extended family members or otherwise supports family-based alternatives to institutional care.
Post-Orphanage Care
The organization provides education, housing, employment preparation, mentoring, or other assistance to young people transitioning out of orphanages or residential care.

Where available, the directory may include publicly listed information such as an organization’s:

Contact information is included to make it easier for organizations, educators, donors, researchers, and others working in Haitian education to find and communicate with one another.
How Yes/No Fields Work
In the underlying directory database, many categories are recorded with an X.
X means that we found evidence that the organization meets that category.
A blank field generally means that the category has not been identified for that organization. It should not automatically be interpreted as proof that the organization does not provide that service.
A Note About the Map
Map markers vary in precision depending on the information available.
When possible, a marker represents an exact school, facility, or program location. When an exact location is unavailable, the marker may represent the organization’s town, neighborhood, commune, or another appropriate geographic point.
Organizations working nationally or in multiple locations may be handled differently from organizations associated with one specific place.
The map is intended primarily as a tool for understanding where organizations are working and finding organizations near one another, rather than as a source of precise navigation coordinates.
